Beloit Athletics is in for a treat this year with the addition of Men’s Lacrosse. This will be the first ever lacrosse team in Beloit College’s history, as well as in the Midwest Conference.
The men’s team will be coached by Bob Dignazio and Nate Pritchard, who both played Lacrosse at Kenyon College in Ohio. The women’s Head Coach, Meredith Newman, also comes from Kenyon, where she spent two years as an assistant coach.
The men’s team is made up of 22 players. Four sophomores and 18 first-years, representing several states across the country including California, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin will take the field for the Bucs.
As of now, both the men’s and women’s teams will play 13 games throughout the season. Dignazio, the men’s head coach, also scheduled a scrimmage against his alma mater, Kenyon College.
This year both teams will be playing independently, meaning they will not be part of a Division III conference. They will have games spread out across Illinois, Wisconsin and even Michigan.
During spring break the teams will head to both Atlanta, Georgia and Lexington, Kentucky, where they will be training for their season and playing three games apiece.
Although their official seasons begin in March, the teams, eager to play, will begin Fall practices Sunday, September 9. The teams’ practices will be held both on the field and in the weight room.
Beloit College has been anticipating the lacrosse team’s official debut this March, and will be looking forward to their future successes in years to come.
