On Tuesday, September 4, the Beloit Men’s Soccer team played their second game of the season. The Buccaneers grabbed an overtime victory against Concordia University Wisconsin.
After conceding their only goal so far this season in the 11th minute of the game, the Buccaneer defense, led by Sean Little’14, Ryan Munger’14 and B.J. Kiser’15 (a trio more affectionately known as the Super ‘Stache Bros) stepped up and held CUW scoreless for the rest of the game. Despite being outshot 28-11, the Bucs were able to withstand wave after wave of CUW attacks to keep everything out of their net, sending the game into sudden-death overtime.
Trailing by a goal throughout much of the game, the Bucs tied the game up in the 77th minute when forward Marc Robinson’13 scored his third goal of the season, putting away the rebound of his own penalty.
The game was a hard-fought affair and ended up going to the second period of overtime. Then, in the 102nd minute of the game, playing off a through ball from midfielder Tony Racine‘13, Aaron Clark’16, forward, scored the game winner. Clark scored the first goal of his Buccaneer career, and he scored it in style, chipping Concordia’s keeper to put the ball in the back of the net.
After finishing the goal, Clark went directly into a front flip, after being undercut by Concordia’s goalkeeper. A full-on celebration ensued, with the entire team storming the field.
“Winning in overtime is one of the best feelings, especially against a team we haven’t beat in a few years,” said Clark.
This is the Bucs’ second victory this year. The Bucs previously took a 3-0 win against Marian University. Their home opener takes place on Saturday, September 8 at 3:00 p.m. at Strong Stadium, against Edgewood College.
